The People’s Republic of China is located in the eastern part of the Asian continent and on the western coast of the Pacific Ocean. With a land area of 9.6 million square kilometers, China borders the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in the east; Mongolia in the north; Russia in the northeast; Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in the west; Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bhutan in the west and southwest; and Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam in the south. China faces the Republic of Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia in the east and southeast across the sea.

China has a large population and high population density. A multi-ethnic country since ancient times, China is known for the harmonious co-existence of different ethnic groups.

China respects and protects freedom of religion. The main religions are Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholicism and Protestantism.

Beijing is the capital of the People’s Republic of China.


Under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, the peace-loving Chinese people have devoted themselves to economic growth and the development of their society since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. The quality of the people’s lives has improved through the years, as the country has become increasingly prosperous. China successfully hosted the th Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2008, and the World Expo Shanghai and the 16 Asian Games and Paralympic Games in 2010. The Chinese people want to work together with the people of different countries and regions of the world to contribute to world peace, harmony and development.
