In principle, all foreigners participating in the 26th Summer Universiade, Shenzhen must apply in advance for Chinese visas at Chinese embassies, consulates and offices abroad; at the offices of commissioners in Hong Kong and Macao; or at any other overseas institutions authorized by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The only exception would be foreigners that can receive a visa exemption for entry into the mainland of China. (See Attachment 1).  .

If the participants plan to travel to Shenzhen via the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong SAR) of the People’s Republic of China, they might also need to apply for a visa for the Hong Kong SAR, as well as the visa for the mainland of China. (See Attachment 2).


I  Chinese Visa Applications
The following materials must be submitted to apply for a Chinese visa:

(I) The invitation letter from the Organizing Committee for the Shenzhen Universiade;

(The Organizing Committee for the Shenzhen Universiade will send an invitation letter for each member of each accredited delegation.)

(II) A passport that: (1) is valid for at least 6 months from the date of submission and (2) has at least one blank page for a visa;

(III) A Visa Application Form of the People’s Republic of China filled out accurately completely and clearly, and signed by the applicant;

(IV) A recent photograph with a full front-view of the applicant’s head and shoulders, without any head covering(Head coverings required by religions will be allowed);  (Casual photos from everyday life, duplicated photos, or digital photos printed on ordinary paper are not acceptable.)

(V) Any other supporting documents related to the visa application, as required by the visa officer.

The visa application materials must be submitted by the applicant in person, or by another person acting on his or her behalf, except in cases in which the applicant must appear in person, or when the visa officer requires a personal interview.

II  Visa Applications for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong SAR)
If participants plan to travel to Shenzhen via the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong SAR), they might need to apply for a double transit/entry visa for the Hong Kong SAR at Chinese embassies, consulates and offices abroad; or at any other institution outside of China authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China or the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong SAR.  Citizens of some countries can receive visa exemption entry into the Hong Kong SAR. For information regarding the visa requirements for the Hong Kong SAR, please refer to the websites of Chinese embassies and consulates, or the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong SAR (http://www.immd.gov.hk/).

III  Please note the following:

All foreigners in China must abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China.

 (I) All applicants should check the validity of their visas before coming to China. If the visas have expired, or if the number of entries permitted is not sufficient, please apply for a new visa.

 (II) Foreigners who bring animals, plants or cash must abide by the relevant Chinese laws and regulations of the health quarantine department, the animal and plant inspection and quarantine department, and the customs and financial supervision department

(III) No foreigners may be involved in any activity unrelated to the matters declared on the visa application.

(IV) No foreign citizen may stay in China beyond the duration of the visa. All foreign citizens must pay attention to the expiration dates of their passports and the duration of their visas. If a visa extension is needed, an application must be filed in advance with the local public security bureau.

(V) A foreigner who would like to travel to a city or county that is not open to foreigners must apply in advance for a travel permit at the municipal or county public security bureau. Without permission, no foreigners may enter any place that is not open to foreigners.

VI) Please avoid the following circumstances, which might result in punishments such as, not being allowed to board a plane, refusal of entry, or fines:


(1) Coming to China without visas, except for foreigners that are eligible for visa exemption;

(2) Coming to China with expired or invalid visas;

(3) Staying in China beyond the duration of the visa;

(4) Using an expired passport during a stay in China (regardless of the validity or duration of the visa).
