Longgang District’s construction authorities recently said they had reached consensus over a relocation plan with local residents whose houses will be demolished to make may for the construction of a new sports center for the 2011 Universiade.
The authorities said buildings in the area on which the main venue will be built have been demolished and construction would soon begin on sports center.
All local residents showed their support for the project.
“We can benefit from the relocation in the long term” said a resident surnamed Wang. “Although the relocation will bring inconveniences to us at present I think the Universiade will bring us more four years later.”
It is a key construction project not only for Longgang District but also for Shenzhen in the city’s 11th Five-Year Program.
The district government has chosen a new plot of land with an area of 254,000 square meters for the relocation of local residents.
Facilities like tap water and electricity have provided at the new plot the government said. Some residents have already begun to build new houses.
