Design Contest Rules for the Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade Mascot
I. Qualifications for Contest Participants
1.1 The Mascot Design Contest (hereinafter called as “the Design Contest”) for the Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade ((hereinafter referred to as “the Universiade”) is open to institutions and people all over the world.
1.2 All global institutions and people that receive Invitation Letter for the Design Contest for the Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade Mascot (hereinafter referred to as “the Invitation Letter”) and submit works according to the requirements of this regulation.
1.3 All participants shall download by themselves the Design Contest Application Table for the Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade Mascot (hereinafter referred to as “the Application Table”), fill in it and other attachments according to the requirements. Those that have not received the Invitation Letter can download it from the official website of the Universiade: http://www.sz2011.org.
1.4 Any person or institution that takes part in the organizing and appraisal of the contest shall not take part in the contest.
1.5 The Executive Board of the Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade (hereinafter referred to as “the Executive Board”) has the right to check the qualifications of the participants for the contest. If a participant is not qualified or has any false statements in its qualifications, the Executive Board has the right to unilaterally cancel the qualifications of the participant for the contest in any phase of the Design Contest.
II. Requirements for the Works
2.1 Each participant can submit at most two shares of works, or they will be regarded as unqualified works, which shall not be appraised. The Executive Board will first decide works candidates according to the appraisal of the Appraisal Committee, and finally nail down the design scheme for the Universiade mascot.
2.2 The works shall consist of the following parts:
(1) A kernel design scheme for the mascot: consist of one or a group of (two or more than two) mascot image(s).
(2) Based on the kernel design scheme, submit the extension design of the five Universiade sports events (swimming, gymnastics, running, ping-pong, and fencing) being done by the mascot (hereinafter referred to as “the extension design”). If willing to, the participant can submit the extension design of other Universiade sports events being done by the mascot except for the above-mentioned five types. Officially regulated sports contests in Universiade include track and field, basketball, fencing, football, gymnastics (eurythmics and artistic gymnastics), aquatics (swimming, diving and water polo), tennis, volleyball, judo, and ping-pong.
(3) Name of the mascot cartoon image.
(4) Innovation bases and idea of the works.
(5) Explanation and introduction to the characteristics of the mascot.
(6) Design scheme for at least two derivative products (e.g., flag, pin, key chain, and toy, etc.) in both the graphic and tridimensional design of the mascot.
(7) Selective submission: derivative products (e.g., flag, pin, key chain, and toy, etc.); or cartoon or other film and video works that express or introduce the mascot (participants can select one of the two).
(8) Participants can display the Shenzhen Universiade emblem on the mascot. The place for the emblem shall be as conspicuous as possible.
2.3 Specifications for the Works:
(1) A whole-set of the mascot design scheme, including color and black-white design drawing script.
(2) The drawing script of the kernel design scheme shall be printed or drawn on a piece of A4 paper and fixed on black hardboard with 1cm margin on the four sides. It can be transverse or vertical.
(3) If the mascot design scheme consists of two or more images, the drawing script shall still be printed or drawn on one piece of A4 paper.
