HK schools poach in SZ

A TWO-DAY Hong Kong education exhibition for cross-border schoolchildren will be held at Luohu Railway Station at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The exhibition has attracted the participation of 20 schools, an 18 percent increase over last year.

This is the fourth exhibition to introduce schools to cross-border schoolchildren and their parents living in Shenzhen, according to International Social Services Hong Kong, which is hosting the exhibition.

“We had only two cross-border students four years ago, but this year we have had more than 80,” said Ke Yanfeng, principle of Rhenish Church Kindergarten in Hong Kong. Ke hoped the exhibition would provide more information for those intending to send their children to kindergartens in Hong Kong.

A debate will be conducted during the exhibition on whether the Hong Kong government should increase resource support to HK families in Shenzhen with children going to school in Hong Kong.

Cross-border school children mainly include children of Hong Kong native families, children of families with one Hong Kong native and Hong Kong-born children with non-Hong Kong parents, said Zheng Jiaqiu, principle of Luohu School for Hong Kong Children in Shenzhen.
