STUDENTS are required to provide their schools with medical reports this semester starting Tuesday, according to a series of steps implemented by city health authorities to prevent A/H1N1 spreading in schools.
Students with fever or other flu symptoms will be taken to hospital immediately, Ma Hanwu, vice director of the city’s center for disease prevention and control, said Friday.
“If an A/H1N1 infected student is found at a school, the school will be closed immediately and all students will be isolated at home. Medical reports will have to be submitted to health departments each day,” said Ma.
“The CDC will arrange seasonal flu vaccine injections at a cost of 50 to 100 yuan (US$7.33 to US$14.65) per student. The seasonal flu vaccine won’t prevent A/H1N1 flu, but by reducing the cases of other types of flu it can save medical resources,” said Ma.
Meanwhile, four Foxconn workers who were diagnosed with A/H1N1 were now being treated at the company’s dormitory in Guanlan, Bao’an District.
Nearly 30 Foxconn workers developed fever last Tuesday. The cause of the outbreak was still unknown, according to the CDC. “The company is preparing more emergency measures to prevent and control any more outbreaks,” said Foxconn medical services director Rui.
The city had reported 268 A/H1N1 flu patients by Friday, 60 percent of whom were students.
The patients were from 17 countries and regions, including 37 from Hong Kong, 31 from Australia and 27 from United States.
