CHINA Southern Power Grid Co. Ltd. (CSPG) became a strategic partner of the Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade as the two sides signed an agreement at the Wuzhou Guest House yesterday.

The company will take charge of building all power grids for the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center in Longgang District and guarantee the supply of electricity for the Universiade in 2011.

Shenzhen Party chief Liu Yupu and Mayor Xu Zongheng attended the ceremony.

“The agreement marks a milestone in the development of the strategic cooperative partnership between the CSPG and Shenzhen,” said Yuan Maozhen, board chairman of the company.

Established in December 2002, the CSPG invests, constructs and operates power networks in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan. It ranks 226th among the Fortune 500 corporations this year.

The company’s electricity supplies to Shenzhen have increased from 4.8 million kwh in 2002 to 10 million kwh in 2007, making Shenzhen the only city in Guangdong Province to consume 10 million kwh a year.

Shenzhen was granted the right to host the 2011 Universiade by the International University Sports Federation in Turin, Italy, on Jan. 16, 2007.
