July 31, 2007 – Shannon Condie won’t have to wait long to add another medal to her collection.
The 19-year-old Mississaugan has been chosen to represent Canada at the World University Games (FISU) in Bangkok, Thailand from August 8-18.
A student at York University, Condie recently returned from Rio de Janeiro where she won a silver medal in taekwondo at the Pan American Games.
Condie, who is part of a 10-member Canadian delegation in taekwondo, will compete in the 51-55 kilogram Bantam weight class.
Condie is a member of the Young Choung Taekwondo Academy, and is a four-time Canadian senior champion and five-time Canadian junior champion.
Other than capturing a medal at the Pan Am Games, Condie was also a medalist at the 2006 Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships and International women’s goodwill Olympics
The 24th Summer Universiade will feature 10,000 participants including 8,000 student-athletes from 141 countries competing in 18 sports.
The Summer Universiade is an international multi-sport event that takes place every two years, and is second only to the Olympic Games in the number of participating athletes and countries.
The Universiade is open to competitors between the ages of 17 and 28, who are full-time students at a post-secondary institution.
