WORKERS in Shenzhen will be eligible for free vocational training with the establishment yesterday of the Shenzhen Training Base for Migrant Workers.
The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) will pay 2 million yuan (US$292,700) each year to cover operations at the base which is in Bagualing, Futian District.
More than 3,500 migrant workers in Shenzhen have so far applied for education programs at the base.
To be managed by the city’s federation of trade unions, the base will provide more than 20 types of training courses, including property management, computer science, logistics management and electronics, federation vice chairman Li Shaomei said at a plaque-unveiling ceremony yesterday.
The training base is the only one in Guangdong Province selected by the ACFTU. The national federation selected 12 provinces, including Sichuan, Guangdong, Hunan and Hubei, to establish education bases for migrant workers.
The city government will spend 30 million yuan to subsidize the training of migrant workers this year.
The money will be distributed to 223 companies which are eligible for the training subsidies. Companies that qualify can apply to the city federation by July 31, Li said.
