Chelsea lead English Premier League after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Sunday while Liverpool keep pressure on the leaders after an impressive comeback 3-2 win at Manchester City.
The win for Liverpool, however, was overshadowed by a knee injury to defender Martin Skrtel, who was taken off the field on a stretcher after colliding with Ched Evans in the 87th.
Chelsea outplayed Aston Villa with goals by Joe Cole and Nicolas Anelka, but Liverpool’s comeback at City of Manchester Stadium put it even at the top with 17 points. Fernando Torres scored two goals and Dirk Kuyt added the winner in stoppage time.
Tottenham Hotspur remained rooted to the bottom of the table after losing 1-0 at home to Hull City as the pressure mounted on manager Juande Ramos. Promoted Hull are third with 14 points.
Portsmouth beat next-to-last Stoke 2-1, Bolton won 3-1 at West Ham and Newcastle came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Everton.
On Saturday, Arsenal needed an injury-time equalizer from Cesc Fabregas to draw 1-1 at Sunderland, and defending champion Manchester United won 2-0 at Blackburn with Wayne Rooney scoring one goal and crossing for Wes Brown to score the other.
