A BILLIONAIRE furthered his search for a wife by paying for a whole-page advertisement in a Guangdong newspaper Sunday, drawing the attention of women all over the city.

Whole-page spouse-seeking ads in newspapers haven’t appeared in Shenzhen for some time. The advertisement in Saturday’s Southern Metropolis Daily, featuring a golden scepter wrapped in red silk, has elicited “quite a few” responses from single women, according to Destiny21st, an advertising agent in Huizhou.

Engaged in international trade, the wealthy bachelor, in his 30s, is looking for a good-looking, well-educated, unmarried woman. In the ad, he said he is a Chinese Canadian who missed his prime marriage time during studies abroad, and boasted of having a personal fortune of billions of yuan.

The advertisement gave only the man’s English name, Danny.

“The marriage seeker is 35 years old and good-looking,” said an employee with Destiny21st, who gave only her surname, Nie.

The billionaire was born in Guangdong Province and runs businesses both in Huizhou and Canada, Nie said.

The man had intended to look for a spouse through match-making agencies but chose the news media out of safety concerns, Nie said.

The advertisement has received many applicants, mostly from Guangzhou and Zhongshan, according to Nie.

Nie said she had also received some text messages from Shenzhen, detailing the profiles of applicants.

Destiny21st and “Danny” will make selections from the applicants and meet them following the National Day holidays.

Speaking of the authenticity of the man’s fortune, Nie said her company had conducted a verification process. (Li Hao)
