Low cost carrier AirAsia has launched its new daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Shenzhen, located in Southern China‘s province of Guangdong.
The official flight launch, which took place at Kuala Lumpur Airport, also featured the new self check-in kiosks which enable guests to check in using a touch screen.
Shenzhen is becoming widely known for its shopping facilities as well as for its wide range of top golf courses and attractions. “The travellers from mainland China love Malaysia’s sandy white beaches, delectable cuisines and our unique cultural heritage,” said Dato’ Tony Fernandes, Group Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad
Fernandes also revealed that the high load figures for the new flight have exceeded expectations. “More than 5,000 seats were snapped-up in first week it opened for sale on June, 14 2007. In July, the route recorded close 90 % load and with such strong testimony, the Kuala Lumpur – Shenzhen sector is most likely to be the highest load for a newly launched route.”
Among the launch’s attendees was the Minister of Transport for Malaysia, YB Dato’ Sri Chan Kong Choy as well as Dato’ Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, Director General of Tourism Malaysia.
“There are growing trends among the middle-class Chinese with insoluble desire to travel the world. Our low fare has enabled them not only to travel to Kuala Lumpur but also to other parts of the Southeast Asia region,” concluded Fernandes.
