African cultural officials in town

CULTURAL officials from 14 African countries began their weeklong visit in Shenzhen to see for themselves the city’s cultural facilities, cultural industries, public cultural services and cultural heritage protection.

The tour was arranged by the Chinese Ministry of Culture.

With their tight schedule they will visit Dafen Oil Painting Village, Shenzhen Library, Shenzhen Concert Hall, Guanlan International Print Base and OCT East.

Members of the delegation include Ahamada Moussa, general secretary of the National Education Ministry of Comoros, Gerard Wassen, secretary general of Chad’s Ministry of Culture, and Hayatou Oumarou, secretary general of Cameroon’s Ministry of Culture.

Prior to their visit to the city, they attended the Cultural Policy Roundtable Conference in Beijing, exchanging ideas in terms of government cultural policies, public cultural services and cultural industry development with their Chinese counterparts.

The conference was part of the 2009 African Cultural Visitors Program initiated by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and their counterparts in African countries.

The delegation visited Lanzhou in Gansu Province after a forum in Beijing, and they arrived in Shenzhen on Tuesday evening.

Shenzhen was the host city of the Cultural Policy Roundtable Conference last year.
