A thousand youngsters wish for the Universiade

On the morning of July 17, “Wishing for the Universiade”, a one – thousand – youngster activity to welcome the coming Universiade, was held at Citizen Square of Shenzhen city. 286 middle school and university students from Harvard University, Maryland University and other American schools, together with over 600 Shenzhen local young students, took apart in the activity. Chief of the Executive Office Opening and Closing Ceremony Department Shi Gang was present.

Mr. Shi delivered a speech on the occasion. Firstly he extended his warm welcome to all of the American students, and then he expressed his appreciation to American International Student Fund for offering the opportunity, so that Chinese students could exchange opinions with students from America. He expected everybody present to pay attention to the Universiade and even participate in the Games. Meanwhile, he invited people all over the world, especially youngsters, to come to Shenzhen and watch the Universiade when it opens.

Audience at the activity enjoyed the entertainment performed by the talented young students from the U.S. Both Chinese and American students took part in a signature activity, showing their best wishes for the forthcoming Universiade. And all the colorful balloons bearing youngsters’ good wishes formed the image of the 26th Universiade logo “Happy U”.

As told, the activity is one of the “2010 China – U.S. Culture and Art Exchange” series activities, which is hosted by American International Student Fund, undertaken by Shenzhen  Oriental English College, and Perfect Tone International Corporation, with the help of Shenzhen Daily (English edition), Shenzhen Poly Ttheatre, and the training center of Shenzhen Book City. Activities are going to be launched in Shenzhen Folk Village, Shenzhen Oriental English College, Shenzhen Children’s Palace and Shenzhen Poly Theatre, centering on four subjects: education, culture, art, and tourism. The number of participants of the series activities is estimated to reach 20,000.
