“I WAS so proud of Shenzhen when I heard the news last month that it had won the 2011 Universiade bid,” Christopher C. Nienhuis, a field service representative of Boeing at Shenzhen Airlines, said at Thursday’s party.
Nienhuis came to Shenzhen last July. Before then Shenzhen was a totally new name to him and his family.
“But I soon began to love this city, especially when I got to know that it was so young with a history of only 26 years. It’s dynamic, progressive, creative and open-minded,” Nienhuis said.
“Not long after I arrived in Shenzhen, I read the Shenzhen Daily and the special reports in the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily about its Universiade bid. I had a strong feeling that Shenzhen would definitely win,” said Nienhuis, a sports fan whose favorites are baseball and basketball.
Nienhuis shared his belief with his family, and was proved to be right. “When I heard the news Jan. 17 that Shenzhen had won the bid, I said to my family: ‘I’m so proud of Shenzhen,’” he said.
