Lin Mingwei

Lin Mingwei, the first Chinese crossing Australia by bicycle, completed the whole journey and arrived in Sydney on Aug. 28.

Lin Mingwei, a PE teacher of a middle school in Shenzhen’s Baoan District, south China’s Guangdong Province, indicated that although he encountered tremendous difficulties during the journey, he would like to prove to the world Chinese people’s tenacity and endurance of hardship. He also hopes that this journey can support Shenzhen’s bid to host the 26th World University Games and set a remarkable example for his students. Last year, Lin accomplished his journey from Beijing to Paris by bicycle.Lin said that compared with last year’s journey, this one required greater intensity of exercises. Since this ride aimed at supporting Shenzhen’s 26th World University Games bid, he had to complete the whole ride in 20 days, that is, he had to ride 200 to 300 kilometers a day.Daniel Carrwthers, Lin’s New Zealander companion, joined Lin in Adelaide and finished the journey together. Carrwthers, who met Lin in China, hoped that their journey of crossing Australia together can further strengthen the relation among China, New Zealand and Australia.Yin Yali, consul of the Chinese consulate in Sydney, remarked that Lin Mingwei is definitely the pride of Chinese as he has made extraordinary achievements.
