Metro Line 2, a section of which from Window of the World to Chiwan in Shekou to open soon, will be more environmentally friendly and tuned in to passengers.
The 15.5-kilometer section will open Dec. 28 and run through 12 stations in the Nanshan CBD and the Shekou Peninsula.
The new line was said to be more efficient in power consumption. It could save 30 percent of electricity by replacing fluorescent lamps with LED lighting which lasts 5 to 10 times longer, Ye Yuzhu, chief of the public relations department of Shenzhen Metro Co., told reporters yesterday.
Reporters were taken on a test run yesterday from Window of the World Station, the interchange with Metro Line 1.
A distinctive feature on the trains is an LCD (liquid crystal display) above the door, which displays the names of roads and offices or businesses at the exits. It highlights station arrivals with dynamic illustrations instead of simple red arrows.
“This enables passengers to see which exit they need before they get off the train,” Ye said.
Each train is equipped with three emergency internal phones which passengers can use in emergencies.
The section took three-and-a-half years to complete.
The entire line between Chiwan and Xinxiu Village in Luohu District would be open by June, running 35.8 kilometers connecting 29 stations in Nanshan, Futian and Luohu districts.
