THE former head of a well-known education group in Shenzhen was sentenced to four years in prison for raping a subordinate, the Luohu District People’s Court said Friday.

Song Shanmu, 46, founder and former president of the Sunmoon Education Group, was also ordered to pay compensation of 4,205 yuan (US$635) to the victim, Luo Yun, 22.

Luo told police that Song forced her to have sex with him at his apartment in Luohu District on May 3 and took pictures of her in the nude.

Luo wanted to quit her job after an interview with a company in Dongguan in April but Song refused.

Luo started working at Sunmoon in December 2009.

At 7:30 p.m. May 3, Song asked Luo to clean his apartment and drove her to the apartment in Luohu at 8 p.m.

In the apartment, the court was told Song threatened and raped Luo.

The court confirmed that sperm on Luo’s underwear was 99.99 percent likely to be Song’s.

Song went to Beijing for a training session May 4 and returned May 12 for questioning at the request of police. There were no photos of Luo nude found in Song’s camera.

Police also checked Song’s computer and found a hard disk had been replaced by a girlfriend surnamed Cai on May 4.

Song said he would appeal.

The Sunmoon group has more than 200 branches in China, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, employing thousands of staff.
