City to spend¥14b on rail

SHENZHEN will spend 14 billion yuan (US$2.12 billion) on rail projects this year with Shenzhen North Railway Station expected to open in June.

A meeting of the city rail transport and construction office was told Tuesday that the construction of Metro lines 7, 9 and 11 would start this year.

Metro Line 7 would run from Shenzhen Safari Park in Xili, Nanshan District, to Buxin in Luohu District with 23 stations. Line 11 would connect the intercity rail for Shenzhen, Dongguan and Guangzhou in the north, ending at Futian Station on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong railway line.

Line 9 was still under planning but would cover most areas of Futian and Luohu by connecting Shangsha, Futian and Shenzhen Railway Station in Luohu District.

The work would be completed on five Metro lines that would be opened by June 30. By then, the total length of Metro network would be 178 kilometers.
