U.S. archers, biggest winner at championship
The American team became the biggest winner with four gold medals at the 8th World University Archery Championship which was closed at Shenzhen Stadium yesterday.
A test for the 2011 Universiade, the four-day competition attracted 140 archers and officials from 22 countries and regions.
Among its athletes, Adam Gallant won three gold medals in the Compound Man, Compound Mixed Team and Compound Men.
“It was the best result I’ve ever got in the international competitions and I feel very successful. I really hope that I can come to the Universiade next year and take more gold medals home,” Gallant said at the news conference yesterday.
The other three gold medals in the Recurve Mixed Team, Recurve Women Team and Recurve Men Team, were taken by Italy, South Korea and Japan respectively yesterday.
“I am very glad to win the championship and I will practice more in the coming year to gain more medals in the Universiade next year,” South Korean archer Jo Eun Ae, winner of the Recurve Women Team and also the winner of the Recurve Woman, said yesterday at the press conference.
Most of the university archers came to China for competition for the first time.
“Everything in the competition was very good and we’ve got great helps from the staff workers and volunteers. We hope that we can come to the beautiful city again next year,” American student Erika Anschutz, golden medalist in the Compound Mixed Team and Compound Women Team, said.
