On the morning of November 22, local time, the Shenzhen Universiade promotion delegation, headed by Vice President of Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) Yang Liguo and Deputy Secretary-General of Shenzhen Municipal Government Huang Guoqiang, called on University Sports Federation of Britain and had a conversazione with them. President of University Sports Federation of Britain and Vice President of University of Birmingham Mr. Ed Smith, CEO Ms. Karen Rosaria and Director of the International Project Mr. Neal Rogers attended the conversazione.
First, President Smith expressed warm welcome to Shenzhen delegation, and briefed on university sports in Britain. He said he is looking forward to the Universiade to be held in Shenzhen next year, and he will lead the contingent in person to Shenzhen. He made giant commitments that Britain will send a large contingent of 300 athletes who will compete in 22 events, and he also said that University Sports Federation of Britain has embarked on their preparations of participation. He expected the British contingent to pocket more medals next year. At the meeting, the officials of the British University Sports Federation inquired about some major issues like event settings of the Games, the opening time of the Universiade Village, the housing of athletes, and their exit-entry arrangements via Hong Kong Customs.
Huang Guoqiang introduced to the British officials about the Shenzhen’s achievements of economics, culture and social development since the reform and opening up practice. He also expressed his gratitude to the British University Sports Federation for their attention and support to the Shenzhen Universiade, especially, for their earliest response among all to the Participation Invitations (PI Lists) which were sent by the Universiade Executive Office in August, 2010. He commented, Britain boasts rich experience with the international events’ organization and venues’ after – games operation, which merits Shenzhen’s reference and study. Meanwhile, the delegation answered the concerns from the British University Sports Federation. Mr. Huang said, those concerns are actually concerns of all contingents, which the Shenzhen Organizing Committee will take seriously and get down to solve soon.
What’s more, Xtep, a famous Shenzhen sportswear brand, signed a cooperative agreement with the British University Sports Federation, becoming the sportswear supplier for the British contingent to come to Shenzhen.
