Efforts have been made in bird flu and mosquito control in a bid to secure a safe environment for athletes from all over the world, said a World University Games organizer on Sunday.
Prof. Varin Tansuphasiri said they not only provide free medical services to the 12,000 athletes and officials expected here, but also clean up the environment.
“Some players said that there were a lot of mosquitoes in venues, so we have already started killing mosquitoes,” he said.
“Bird flu is another problem that many are concerned about. We are happy to tell every participant of the Games that we did not find any trace of bird flu after investigation in relative areas,” he said.
“Our job is to give all participants a sense of security in terms of public health, on top of our free medical services provided to athletes, officials, staff and journalists,” he said.
The Bangkok Universiade will kick off on Aug. 8, exactly one year earlier than the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games.
