WU QIANGHUA, a Shenzhen-based collector in his early 40s, is holding a special exhibition of 82 ancient Chinese stone carvings at Shenzhen Museum until the end of July.

The exhibits, some of which date as far back as the New Stone Age, are from the private collection of Wu, the managing director of Shenzhen Goldstone Asset Management Ltd.

The highlights of the exhibition include a stone jar with lotus and honeysuckle patterns from the Southern Dynasties (420-589), a stone sheep with wings from the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220), and a kneeling stone beast to ward off evil from the Han Dynasty.

Wu said he had collected more than 1,000 stone carvings from all over China since he fell in love with ancient Chinese art about six years ago.

Wu said one of his favorite piece was a marble tiger from the Han Dynasty, which he bought from a Beijing collector last year.
