On the morning of August 26, Deputy Director of the Universiade Executive Office Liu Pingsheng had a in – depths discussion with Yao Ren, Deputy Director of Shenzhen Party United Front Work Department (Ethnic and Religious Affairs), on religious services for the 26th Shenzhen Summer Universiade, Meeting room 1012 of the Executive office. The chiefs from the Executive Office departments attended the meeting, such as Media and Communications Dept, Logistics Dept, External Relations Dept, Security and Safeguard Dept, Volunteers Dept, Universiade Village Administration Dept.

At the meeting, Chief of the Universiade Village Administration Dept Zhou Yanbing reported on the functional design of the Universiade religious center, special catering services, religious security and safeguard, religious news reports, appointed volunteers and special protocol reception, Customarily, the athletes’ village of a large – scale international event is supposed to offer religious services to the participants who need it, which shows the people – oriented services and respect to various religious beliefs.

Yao Ren noted, since both foreign Affairs and ethnic and religious work are vital to the Universiade, Shenzhen Party United Front Work Department (Ethnic and Religious Affairs) will go all out for the Universiade religious services. For example, they are going to help establish a Universiade religious service guidance organization, to ensure safe, stable, harmonious and orderly religious activities in the games time.

Liu Pingsheng pointed out the 2011 Shenzhen Universiade is a window to display the great achievements of China’s reform and opening up and modernization to the whole world, as well a window to show up China’s policy of religious freedom. With correct understanding, we should attach more importance on religious services and try to offer respective religious services to participating countries who need it; we will do a good job in functional planning of religious establishments, offering special training to the volunteers, and catering services, under the guidance of Shenzhen Party United Front Work Department (Ethnic and Religious Affairs). During the Games, the Universiade Village is the home of participating countries and a focus of attention of people from various circles, the public and the media, especially the Village religious center, he added. In conclusion, he hoped that every unit will make an all – out effort to offer good religious services for the upcoming Universiade, with clear thinking and detailed planning.
