A Historical City
Daegu is a historical city located in the south eastern part of the Korean peninsula that is inherited from the Silla and Gaya Kingdoms.
Some 400 years ago, Gyeongsang Gamyeong (the governor’s office in Gyeongsang province) was built in Daegu.
Today, the city is one of Korea’s political, economical, cultural, industrial and educational centers with a population of 2.5 million inhabitants.
Natural Beauty
The city is blessed with natural beauty. Mt. Palgongsan is located in the north eastern region of Daegu as the backdrop of the city. From ancient times, Mt. Palgongsan has been regarded as a holy mountain. The most frequently visited place on the mountain is the Donghwasa Temple. Buddha statues, pagodas and relief Buddha images are spread all over the valleys of Mt. Palgongsan and the mountain is known as the most sacred place of Buddhist culture in the nation.
Festivals
Daegu is also a city of festivals. There is the Yangnyeongsi Festival that takes place in Yakjeongolmok (Herb medicine Valley), which has been the Mecca of traditional Korean medicine for 350 years.
There is the Textile Fashion Festival, held twice a year turning Daegu into an international textile and fashion city.
Other festivals are Gatbangu Festival, Mt. Biseulsan’s Azalea Festival and Dalgubeol Festival.
