Universiade countdown begins

TEN, nine, eight… more than 3,000 Shenzhen residents gathered at the Citizens’ Center in Futian District yesterday to begin the countdown to the 2011 Universiade Games, which will be held in the city Aug. 12-23.
At an evening party, Party chief Liu Yupu handed over Universiade flag to representatives from all walks of life and encouraged them to be well prepared for the coming sports gala.
Acting Shenzhen Mayor Wang Rong encouraged all citizens to do their part to keep the city’s promise to host the most successful games in the history of the Universiade.
“Starting here, we should quicken construction of sports facilities, strengthen communication with world university students and learn from previous hosts. Starting here, all citizens should contribute to the Universiade and share happiness of the games. Starting here, the city should improve transport,” said Wang.
