Irresistible Chinese heat in the Universiade Village

The practice of writing Chines Characters in a brush, catching peanut seeds with chopsticks, and listening to the Chinese folk song Mo Li Hua are Shenzhen’s promotion activities of Chinese Culture in the Universiade Village, namely Shenzhen Day. The exhibition in a room of no more than 45 square meters absolutely attracts a great number of the unversity students from across the world, which makes the room full of visitors all day. On the Shenzhen Day, all guests here can see the image of Shenzhen City and feel the irresistible Shenzhen heat.

“Where is Shenzhen?” “How far is it from Beijing?” such questions are frequently asked by foreign athletes and coaches, which shows that Shenzhen is totally a strange city to them. In order to let more people know about Shenzhen, on the Shenzhen Day, propaganda films about Shenzhen City and the Shenzhen Universiade are broadcast in both Chinese and English. It is unexpected that writing Chinese Characters in a brush, and catching peanut seeds with chopsticks turns out to be the most popular activities in the exhibition room.

In the practice of writing Chines Characters, the working staff first writes a model of calligraphy, letting a guest to copy. After the guest finishes writing, he can keep it as a gift from the exhibiton. In this way, a few days later, a lot of writing paper and ink are used by the visitors, among whom some even came to the Shenzhen Day for this practice every day, taking it a second major besides attending the keen competition.

Using Chopsticks is a tough task to many overseas guests, so catching peanut seeds with chopsticks seems a “mission impossible”. Whereupon, a unique “World Cup Contest of Catching Peanuts Seeds” is held in the exhibiton room every day, since the participants are from all over the world. Who first gets ten of the peanut seeds is the winner of the “World Cup” and can get a multi-purposed USB adapter in a UU shape as an award. To those losers, they can eat up all peanuts as comfort.
