Killian:I am entirely satisfied with Shenzhen

George E. Killian, old friend of Shenzhen City, was interviewed at the head office of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) yesterday by the reporter of Daily Sunshine. He put a premium on the report and keynote speech of Shenzhen delegation, and said he was entirely satisfied with Shenzhen’s Universiade preparations. He is coming to inspect Shenzhen in a few months.

Reporter: Mr. Killian, after hearing so many cities’ reports at the general congress of FISU, are you deeply impressed by Shenzhen?

Killian: Yes, of course. Since I know Shenzhen and I like Shenzhen, I am convinced that the Shenzhen Universiade will exceed the Beijing 2001 Universiade.

Reporter: Are you confident we will be hosting a “most exciting, spectacular and impressive” university sports gala in history?

Killian: Yes, absolutely. During my several vistis to Shenzhen, I find not only the organizing committee but also common Shenzheners throw themselves into the Universiade with great zeal. That is because Shenzhen is a young city with a population of mostly young people, who are never short of enthusiasm.

Reporter: What experience and lessons can we learn from Belgrade?

Killian: Indeed Belgrade met with some troubles. However, I hope Shenzhen not. Instead, I suggest Shenzhen should learn from the 2009 Harbin Winter Universiade, which can teach you how to organize the events. You can also profit from the successful experience of the Beijing Olympics, which followed the successful hosting of the 2001 Beijing Universiade. So you see, China has had rich experience and professional skills as to host an international sports event.

Reporter: On the Shenzhen Universiade, do you have any specific and detailed suggestions?

Killian: I have not so far. Shenzhen’s organization and preparation work go beyond my guidance, as you did such a good job. The organizing committee has been working orderly and preparations for the games have been going on smoothly, which set aside for the next move more time than any of the previous ones.

Reporter: Many thanks for your commendation, and we will go on with our work to make good on the promise made.

Killian: One reminder: never ask my attitude to Shenzhen. It is obvious that you are doing wonderful now, and I believe you will keep the contract.

Reporter: When is your next visit to Shenzhen?

Killian: No exact date, however, in a few months, we are likely to come back here again. reporter: Is It the most judicious Decision for Shenzhen to act as the hosting city of the 2011 Summer Universiade? Killian: You can say that again. It is hard to imagine that Shenzhen was only a fishing village 29 years ago, which now has grown to be more beautiful than many other modern cities magically. It is in Shenzhen that we are going to have what we want to have. I have been to the construction site of University Town’s sports center, I am convinced University Town’s sports center will serve as the best sports venues and stadiums in the Universiade history, when finished and put into use. And now, let’s look forward to the amazing performance of Shenzhen at the closing ceremony of the 25th Universiade.
