Universiade Village to open in Aug

THE 2011 Shenzhen Universiade Village will open Aug. 1 next year, a government meeting was told yesterday.
The main buildings of the village occupying an area of 492,000 square meters in Longgang District have been completed.
The village has zones for accommodation, operations, international and logistics support.
There are a total of 4,997 rooms for athletes in five apartment buildings in the accommodation zone, which is also home to a 10,000-sqm dining hall. Each room will be shared by two athletes.
Sporting delegations can reserve rooms on the Games official Web site.
The reception area will be in the operations zone, from where shuttle buses will arrive and depart during the Games.
During the Games, a variety of cultural performances such as magic, acrobatics, fashion shows, martial arts and a carnival parade will be staged each day.
Other facilities such as Internet cafes, gymnasiums, clinics and video rooms will also be available in the zone.
A logistics center and a laundry center will be set up in the logistics support zone.
A trial of village facilities is scheduled between June and July.
After the Games, the village will become part of the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology, which will be relocated to Longgang District.
