“hero flower” welcomes Universiade
The bombax flower, taking root in Southern China and Shenzhen, with straight trunks and high torch – shaped flowers, blends in with the Universiade spirits very much. A large painting exhibition of the bombax flower was jointly held by the Universiade Executive Office and Futian District government, the Citizen Center, December 15. The works are all painted by local Shenzhen painter Lu Feng. Member of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and Executive vice Mayor Lu Ruifeng, Deputy Director of the Universiade Executive Office Zhao Guanghua and leaders of Futian District attended the opening ceremony.
As told, Lu Feng, born in Wuhua, Meizhou City of Guangdong Province, is now Managing Deputy President of Artists Association of Shenzhen city Futian district and President of Futian district Calligraphy and Painting Academy. In his thirty years’ art making, he has been devoting himself to painting bombax flowers, nick named “hero flower”. His works of the “hero flower” were awarded in national grade painting exhibitions several times and has won a hatful of plaudits from the arts circle, because of his unique artistic attainments.
In a charity sale at the opening ceremony, Lu Feng’s painting “Heroes of Southern China” raised fund of 100,000 Yuan RMB and the money has all been donated to the Shatian Primary School, Wuhua in the eastern Guangdong.
The seventy – odd paintings in the exhibition were all created within these two years. The bombax’s heroic spirit definitely matches up to Chinese athletes’ fighting spirit, so it is a perfect interpretation of the Universiade notions and spirits. The exhibition will last until Dec. 20, and interested citizens can take a close look at those paintings of “hero flower” at Eastern Pavilion, the Citizen Center
