Commendatory meet of Shenzhen delegation

Dec 21, a commendatory meeting of Shenzhen delegation taking part in the 4th Traditional Ethnic Minority Sports Games of Guangdong Province was held in the folk culture villages of Splendid China. Member of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and Chief of the United Front Work Department Zhang Siping, Vice President of the Executive Committee and Director-general of the Universiade Executive Office Liang Daoxing, Deputy Director of the Universiade Executive Office Liu Pingsheng and other leaders attended the commendatory meeting and presented awards for the athletes, coaches and relevant organizations.
As told, the 4th Guangdong Province Traditional Ethnic Minority Sports Games ran in Shaoguan City, September 14 – 21, 2010. Shenzhen delegation has altogether 129 athletes from 22 national minorities such as the Zhuang, Uyghur, Moggol, Bouyei, etc. They participated in 11 of all 12 sport excluding firecrackers and they attended 2 performance events. As a result, the delegation obtained 40 medals: 9 gold medals, 24 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals. With 495 group scores, the delegation ranked third in the 22 teams and was crowned the “Sportsmanship Award” and “Excellent Organization Award”.
At the commendatory conference, Zhang Siping said National Ethnic Games is not only a joint performance of the national traditional culture, but also a way to enhance our ethnic work. What’s more, we will have another world-class sports gala again — the Universiade to be held in Shenzhen next year. He hoped, making persistent efforts and based on National Ethnic Games, we need to link the promotion of traditional ethnic sports with launching national comity movement. Now, all nationalities in Shenzhen are looking forward to joining hands in the internationalization drive of the city.
