CHINA’S Ding Junhui and Marco Fu of Hong Kong set up the first all-Asian final in the history of snooker’s major tournaments Saturday with victories in the semifinals of the Masters at Wembley.
Ding beat England’s Jamie Cope 6-3 to secure the clash with Fu, who earlier came back from 4-1 down to defeat Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen 6-4.
For the best-of-19-frame final, organizers expected the television audience to likely exceed 100 million in the Far East.
Ding was looking forward to his clash with Fu, who beat him in the final of the Asian Games last November in China.
Asked about the prospect of an all-Chinese final, Ding told the BBC: “I think it’s lucky. I’m very proud.
“I’m going to try very hard because I saw Marco play very well today.”
On facing Ding, Fu was expecting a special contest.
“It’s going to be great,” Fu told the BBC.
