U.S. archer expects Universiade champion

The fresh champion of the Compound Men of the 8th World University Archery Championship said he wanted the same place at the 2011 Universiade in August in Shenzhen.

In yesterday’s individual final of the compound men, the 19-year-old Gallant Adam defeated his No. 1 rival Daniel Wido that won the U.S. National Archery Championship in May and took the gold medal.

“This city is amazing—its people, architectures and food. I like it so much,” Adam said in an interview after the competition.

The university student said he had tried to know more about the city and Chinese culture through Internet before he came.

“I took other members of the U.S. team to shop in the downtown and it was great. But it is a pity that we will have to miss a tour around the city organized by the championship’s organizing committee because we are flying back Monday morning.”

This is the first time for Adam to compete in the championship, in which he took a first place. Thanks to the satisfactory result, Adam was confident about the 2011 Universiade.

“I haven’t had enough in the city and I’m coming back next year. During that time, I will spend more time in touring around the city and hopefully I’ll take the first place again in the 2011 Universiade.”
