Shenzhen delegation attends FISU Executive Committee Conference, Belgium

From November 18 to 20, local time, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) held the second session of the FISU Executive Committee Conference this year, Brussels of Belgium. The Shenzhen delegation, led by Deputy Secretary-General of Shenzhen Municipal Government and Managing Deputy Director of the Universiade Executive Office Huang Guoqiang, attended the meeting and gave the eighth progress report on the Universiade preparations. With the Shenzhen Universiade approaching, Shenzhen is increasingly becoming the focus of FISU Executive Committee members. The elaborately tailored report interprets many highlights in recent Universiade preparatory work, especially those Executive Committee members’ concerns, such as the newest personnel constituent framework of the Executive Office, availability of every event’s Competition Manager, venue construction, housing distribution programs in the Universiade Village, the traffic services, meal service standards, the progress of events’ scores systems, marketing, and security and safeguard programs.

In his speech, Huang Guoqiang said, since the FISU Executive Committee Conference in Shenzhen, May, Shenzhen has been keeping a close communication with the FISU. Any concern from the FISU and the University Sports Federations of related countries and regions had been responded positively, which shows that the Universiade preparations are proceeding remarkably orderly and efficiently.

After that, FISU Executive Committee members had a in – depth talk with Mr. Huang about the following issues: the housing arrangements in the Universiade Village, online dorm – reserve system, athlete issues related to transit visa, entries and exits, arrival and leaving via Hong Kong Customs, events’ scores systems, device list authentication of timekeeping and scoring systems and solution, invitation of each contingent’s torch bearer, volunteer’s recruitment, training, and volunteer certificate awarding, Competition Managers’ availability, Muslim athletes’ special meal arrangements during Ramadan, and financing of the contingents of lesser developed countries. To Shenzhen Universiade preparations, the Executive Committee members gave their thumbs up, and on the Organizing Committee’s work, President Killian put a premium. He noted he never questions Shenzhen’s ability to stage an impressive Universiade and he also hoped that the Shenzhen Organizing Committee will soon solve the problems which were raised by the Executive Committee members.

On November 17 – 19, just before the Conference, the first “City Sports Exchange Meeting” was launched in Brussels, under the theme of “From Sport Events to the City Experience”. Shenzhen delegation was invited to the meeting and made a keynote speech named “Venues in the Future”, taking the Universiade Center and Shenzhen Bay Sports Center for example. Their speech won loud cheers and wide attention. At the discussion afterwards, the Shenzhen delegation exchanged opinions with people present on how a host city renovates and refurbishes the old venues creatively, to get more people involved in the Games and promote the Games and the city more effectively.
