In order to spread knowledge on the Universiade among citizens and thus promote the events, according to the Universiade bid report and the Executive Office, a Universiade Culture Festival is to be held around January 17 every year before 2010. Following the previous two successful Culture Festivals, the third one began on Dec. 15, 2009, and ended Dec. 17.
Since the Universiade entered the “Shenzhen Time”, Secretary of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC Liu Yupu has given a mobilization order “ building a civilized, harmonious, and internationalized city to welcome and host the Universiade”, so has Acting Mayor Wang Rong. For this end, the third Universiade Culture Festival kicked off.
Not long before, two festivals, the 2008 Universiade Culture Festival and 2009 Universiade Culture Festival, were held. The two have got expectation effect with the help of all the departments of the Executive Office.
In accordance with “Shenzhen City’s Action Project for the Universiade”, every member unit of the Executive Committee and every social organization in Shenzhen can host various mass cultural activities to promote the Universiade. There are many kinds of activities in the festival, such as “the civil preaching of etiquette”, “the civilized traffic campaign”, “campus culture festivals and song solicitation”, “citizens learning to speak English” and some community activities. Compare to others, a large interactive competitive TV program “ the Universiade is Around the Corner”, “the Universiade decorative art exhibition”, and the eleventh “New Voice on Campus” singing contest attracted more citizens as well as university students, which produced good repercussion in society.
