Intl. boat and kite festivals to kick off

THE 8th Shenzhen Golden Coast Tour Festival will open Sept. 27, just days ahead of the National Day holiday.

The opening of the two-month festival also marks the 29th World Tourism Day, officials from the Yantian District Government said at a news conference yesterday.

The leisure-themed festival features four highlights, including the opening ceremony at OCT East, the 5th Shenzhen (Dameisha) Beach Music Festival from Oct. 16 to 17, the 4th Dameisha International Kite Festival from Oct. 24 to 25 and the 3rd China (Shenzhen) International Boat Show from Nov. 12 to 15 at the Shenzhen Dameisha Yacht Club.

It will host more international participants than in previous years, Lu Chengyan, vice head of the Yantian government, said at the news conference.

The boat show will draw 200 exhibitors from 20 countries with 100 boats, an increase of 50 percent over the previous festival, tourism officials said at the news conference.

The exhibition area will expand to 10,000 square meters, triple the size last year.

Grand Pavois Organization, Europe’s biggest water boat show planner, will present the biggest water boat show in Asia. The show helped draw a number of foreign-brand boat exhibitors, such as Sunseeker and Princess, according to the news conference.

The boat show is expected to draw 30,000 visitors.

Top kite flyers Jean Paul and Peter Lynn, a Guinness record holder for the biggest kite in the world, will join the kite show that has attracted 30 teams from 18 countries.

As China’s biggest outdoor music festival and one of Shenzhen’s top 10 cultural brands, the beach music festival is expected to draw 100,000 people.
