City to spend ¥1b on 58 projects

THE Shenzhen city government plans to investment nearly 1 billion yuan (US$146.49 million) this year in 58 projects, including infrastructure, low-cost housing, parks and healthcare, the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress decided in a meeting Monday.

The 58 projects, including 18 environmental protection projects, eight education and healthcare projects, 24 infrastructure projects as well as two low-cost housing projects, will require a total investment of 968.57 million yuan, the Nanfang Daily quoted the committee as saying yesterday.

In order to host a “green” Universiade in 2011, the city government plans to invest 149.93 million yuan to improve the air and water quality in the city and reduce pollution, and 30 million yuan will be spent this year to initiate the projects, the report said.

Another 30 million yuan will be spent this year on the relocation of the Baguang industrial park, which covers 211,000 square meters in Longgang District and requires a total investment of 2.12 billion yuan.

Another 30 million yuan will be spent this year on building roads in the newly established Pingshan New Zone in Longgang District. To develop the transportation network in the new zone, the city plans to build 10 roads across the area at a cost of 550 million yuan, the report said. The roads will have a total length of 20 kilometers.

Meanwhile, a medical equipment manufacturing park, a pharmacy park and a comprehensive services industry park will be built in the new zone this year with a preliminary investment of 30 million yuan.

Families on low incomes in the city will have more chances to take up government-subsidized apartments as construction on two low-cost housing projects will start this month in Nanshan District.

The two projects, the third phase of Songping Village and Shenkang Village, will cost more than 1.6 billion yuan. Located in the Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park, the third phase of Songping Village will be able to house 3,647 families and Shenkang Village near the Antuo Hill will contain 2,796 apartments. The two estates are expected to be completed June 2011.
