China Tianrong F1 motorboat team to compete in world championship China GP

China Tianrong F1 motorboat team will compete in the 2008 F1 motorboat world championship China Grand Prix that will be held from Oct. 10-12 in Liuzhou, southwest China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Zhang Fuhai, vice mayor of Liuzhou told a press conference on Monday that the Tianrong motorboat team was approved by the Aquatic Sports Management Center of General Administration of Sport of China and the International Motorboat Federation in May, 2006, when it began to compete in all the F1 matches.

The Tianrong motorboat team performed well in the competitions in 2006 and 2007. It also played very well in the previous legs of the 2008 F1 motorboat world championship, with its total score ranking fourth among all the teams participating in the competition.

More than 20 top world-class F1 motorboat racers from 11 countries and regions such as the United States, Russian, France and Italy will compete in the China Grand Prix, the fifth-leg competition of the 2008 F1 world championship. The previous four legs were held in Qatar, Portugal, Finland and Russia respectively.

The circuit for the competition will be located in the downtown water area of Liujiang river, which runs through Liuzhou, said Zhang.

“Now the preparation work for the competition has been finished,” he added.
