Universiade Web site launched

President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) George E. Killian, Chinese Vice Minister of Education Zhang Xinsheng, Shenzhen Party chief Li Hongzhong and Shenzhen Mayor Xu Zhongheng announced the inauguration of the Web site http://www.sz2011.org yesterday.

The bilingual Web site has all the updated information about the 2011 Universiade, which will be held in Shenzhen from Aug. 8 to 18, 2011, as well as pictures and stories related to the city’s bid for the event.

The domain name was donated by Shenzhen resident Qiu Weiping, who bought it half a year before Shenzhen won the bid and bought two other domain names http:///www.sz2011.org and http:///www.sz2011.net Jan. 16, one day before Shenzhen won the bid.

“I bought the domain names because I was confident that Shenzhen would win,” Qiu said yesterday.

On the home page of the Web site, one can see Shenzhen’s bid slogan “Shenzhen Embraces the World,” as well as the logo of the city’s bid.

The site also has the latest news about the international university sports federation (FISU) and the city, such as the voting process for the games logo and the ongoing meeting of the fifth general assembly of the AUSF.

The Web site gives information about the city’s preparations for the Universiade with details about every venue to be used for the 2011 Universiade along with pictures of these venues. Important announcements for the 2011 Universiade, such as Rules on the Management of Advertisements for the 26th Summer Universiade, are also on the Web site.

In the future, the Web site will also contain event rules, market opportunities, athlete registration, and other information related to the event. (Helen Deng, Shenzhen Daily)
