Heavy security at World University Games

Some 8,000 police officers will provide security and traffic control during the 11-day Universiade Games 2007, hosted by Thailand.

Speaking of the 24th Universiaed Games from August 8-18 in Bangkok, Deputy Royal Thai Police Commander, Pol.Gen. Isaraphan Snitwongse Na Ayuttaya said that operational centers have been set up at sports venues and at the athlete’s village.

Pol.Maj.Gen. Phanu Kerdlabphon, Deputy Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau asked motorists to avoid entering Ramkamhaeng area on Wednesday from noon until evening as the opening ceremony of the World University Games will be held at the Rajamangala Stadium and the Thammasat University stadium in Rangsit during the competition.

Besides the presence of uniformed and plainclothes police officers around the clock at the opening ceremony, metal and explosives detectors will be used for security reasons.

Closed-circuit television cameras have been installed at the stadium for additional security. (TNA)
