1995 Winter Universiade Mascot

17th Winter Universiade Jaca, Spain – February 18th to 26th, 1995

Name: MASKI

Artist: Chema Galan, Ana Bendicho Romero & Jesus Gomez Luesia

History: The basic idea used to design the mascot was based on an attempt to humanize the Pyrenean mastiff (dog breed) and the final result was the birth of ‘Maski’ .

The Pyrenean mastiff (Berger) can weigh up to 55 kilos and wins people over with its superb white, longhaired coat.

The graphic resolution of his design cannot be highlighted as innovating, but a loose and determined stroke has given the mascot a great personality, with an affable and sarcastic gesture which is typical of the Aragonese.

The name chosen for the mascot was a result of joining the words ‘Mastiff’ and ‘ski’, which was also a name easy to remember and pronounce in the majority of the languages.
