Shenzhen has established a sound social security system including social welfare, employment and social aid for disabled persons whose population has reached 60,000, accounting for 3.02 percent of the city’s total.

Sources from the Shenzhen Federation for Disabled Persons said Thursday that the city had issued 45 documents governing the rights and welfare of disabled persons in medical treatment, rehabilitation, education, training, employment and sports.

Shenzhen was the first city in China to include disabled persons in its social insurance scheme after implementing an insurance regulation starting April 1 this year. Disabled persons aged between 18 and 60 with certificates for disabled persons who are not employed in institutions and enterprises can apply for the subsidy.
