History: Sablik depicts a marmot. The Zakopane marmot, a moutain rodent, is a protected species. It lives in the Tatra National Park. Its main habitat are mountain pastures where it can find plenty of vegetation to feed on. The marmots live in colonies, digging holes in the ground to find shelter. They sleep through winter in burrows filled with plants. The hibernation lasts from September to May. When spring comes, they leave their burrows in spite of the snow still lying there. To get outside, the marmots dig their way through the snow. They love to bathe and play in the sun, wrestling, pushing and chasing one another.
